OK Here’s What Will Happen
We’re back for season 5 of Homework. Last season we had a night of alternative DVD commentary, Wild Abandon, Cynical Ballads, a documentary about computer-generated poetry, Summer Camp, Nick Hornby, Andrew Motion and Steve Aylett.
This season the homework assignments are going to get even stranger. We’ve got a boat, a karaoke machine, a bunch of failed viral videos. Let’s see what we can do with this.
Monday 4th June WOODEN JUBILEE BOAT PARTY
It’s the Jubilee AND our fifth birthday, so with a sly nod to the Sex Pistol’s shenanigans 35 years ago the Homework residents decamp from their usual base at Bethnal Green Workingmen’s Club to bring you the very finest of their irreverent poetics for a Bank Holiday boat party. Also featuring competing boat tours from Ross and Joe.
Our boat is The London Belle and she has two fully licensed bars. Embark at London’s Festival Pier (Southbank) at 1.30pm. Boat returns at 4.45pm..
Wednesday 27 June KARAOKE with THE WAKEFIELD TWINS
A night of cover versions, remixes, and yup karaoke. Special guests are Elizabeth Sankey and Emmy the Great, possessed by the spirits of the Wakefield twins from Sweet Valley High.
Wednesday 25 July GAMES with SPECIAL GUEST
A preview of Ross Sutherland’s new interactive comedy-club/murder-mystery, Comedian Dies In The Middle Of Joke. Plus some other games. We’re not sure yet.
Wednesday 29 Aug BATTLE with BUDDY WAKEFIELD
We pit poet against poet in another evening of unnecessary competition. Poets have to respond to each other’s work, with only a few minutes to prepare. Special guest is two-time world poetry slam champion, Buddy Wakefield.
Wednesday 26 Sep TRUE STORIES with SPECIAL GUEST
We rip off The Moth for a third year running, with a night of true stories, told onstage by the people they happened to. We’re keeping the guest secret as usual, but previous guests have included Johann Hari and Nick Hornby.
Wednesday 7th Nov VIRAL with SPECIAL GUEST
All season, our residents have been trying to create a successful viral video. We end the season by comparing our results. Each resident gets to make a presentation on their strategy, and discuss the various internet memes that helped them along the way. Rapping teacher and internet phenomenon Mark Grist is on hand to make everyone feel small and insignificant.
